Why I made this
Symbols are often copied from a game, profile, document, website, or message without people knowing what they are, where they come from, or whether they are open for anyone to use. I made Unicode Inspector to help prevent that kind of misleading reuse.
That is why the tool calls attention to closed symbols: symbols that should not be assumed to be generic decoration or available for anyone to adopt. The tool helps you identify what you are looking at; it does not decide cultural meaning, permission, or whether a use is respectful.

When a symbol looks wrong or tells you nothing
A character may appear as a box, a blank space, or a symbol you cannot identify. Copying it into Unicode Inspector reveals the underlying character data instead of making you guess from its appearance.
It is especially useful when you encounter an unfamiliar symbol and want to pause before reusing it, attributing it, adapting it, or presenting it as decoration.

Separate input into characters and identify the Unicode name when that information is available.
Code point and hex
Read the character's Unicode code point, including U+ notation and hexadecimal value.
Unicode block
See the broader Unicode block a character belongs to, which helps place unfamiliar symbols in technical context.
Closed-symbol status
Check for symbols marked as closed or likely to be unsupported instead of relying on how one device happens to render them.
Identify first, research respectfully
Use the tool as a first step, not a permission slip. After identifying a symbol, look for reliable cultural and historical sources, learn how the relevant community describes it, and avoid using it when the context or permission is unclear.
