SHADORUX

Magazine Archive

Shadow's 2005 magazine trail stretches across early first looks, interviews, posters, previews, cover stories, advertisements, and release-period reviews. This archive records what can actually be traced and leaves unresolved issue data unresolved.

The print trail

Surviving Sonic archives make it possible to identify several substantial magazine sets even when the original publications are difficult to obtain. Secrets of Sonic Team preserved an early scan index; Sonic Stadium later cataloged individual pages; Sonic HQ preserved contemporary reporting about the Nintendo Official Magazine feature.

Shadorux catalogs those records without presenting externally hosted scans as its own preservation copies. Issue numbers, dates, contributors, page sets, and unresolved metadata stay visible because provenance is part of the artifact.

Known magazine records

01

Electronic Gaming Monthly #191

2005 · issue 191

Secrets of Sonic Team identifies a two-page first look contributed by Blaze Hedgehog, with five images and a sidebar covering other Sonic spin-offs. The issue number is established by the surviving index.

Issue-level provenance established

02

GamesMaster #159

A surviving scanner provenance record identifies issue 159 and describes a Shadow preview with a Takashi Iizuka interview. Secrets of Sonic Team independently records the GamesMaster preview, interview, Sonic retrospective material, and timeline.

Issue and month established

03

Nintendo Official Magazine UK

May 2005

This is one of the strongest surviving magazine sets. The indexed material includes the cover, contents, a two-part poster, feature pages, screenshots, weapon and vehicle information, destructible-environment discussion, and a Takashi Iizuka interview. Sonic Stadium preserves individually cataloged pages and credits Murray Thomson; the older Secrets of Sonic Team index records the contributor as Murray Thompson.

2005 · issue unresolved

Secrets of Sonic Team describes a front-page story and four-page preview with weapon and machinery details. Sonic Stadium independently preserves records for a two-page preview and cover-story material. The exact issue number was not established in the research pass and should not be guessed.

06

Official Xbox Magazine UK

Why the May 2005 material matters

The spring magazine cycle captures the game while its public identity was still being formed. Period reporting did not discuss only guns: it also documented vehicles, destructible environments, familiar Sonic attacks, screenshots, posters, and direct comments from Takashi Iizuka. These pages preserve what readers were being told before the finished game reached stores.

Print advertising connected to the archive

US campaign

Sonic Stadium catalogs three separate pages of US magazine advertising from 2005. The original publication source for the set remains unidentified.

UK advertisement

A separate UK magazine advert survives in Sonic Stadium's archive and should remain distinct from the US three-page campaign.

Older preservation record

Secrets of Sonic Team also indexed a print advertisement and credited Wario64. More work is needed before assuming it is identical to any specific Sonic Stadium record.

Still to resolve

The archive gets stronger by refusing to manufacture missing metadata. These are the current print-research targets.

Nintendo Power issue

Read issue information directly from the surviving scan or publication record.

OPSM2 issue and page

Identify the clipping's publication metadata and contributor provenance if possible.

OXM UK issue

Resolve the issue and page information for the documented 7/10 review.

US advert publications

Identify which magazines carried each of the three cataloged US advertisement pages.
