Takashi Iizuka says Shadow is approaching Sonic's popularity — and he wants more focus on him
In a Sonic 35th anniversary interview, Sonic Team creative officer Takashi Iizuka said Shadow's popularity has risen following Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and is now reaching roughly the same level as Sonic's. Iizuka also named Shadow as his personal favorite and said he wants more opportunities for the character to appeal to audiences and receive additional focus. He recalled that Shadow was originally intended to die after Sonic Adventure 2, but his popularity led Sonic Team to bring him back in Sonic Heroes.
