SHADORUX

Advertising & Promotion

The 2005 campaign did not stop at magazine ads and game trailers. Shadow appeared in cinema and television spots, a Japanese music collaboration, wrestling events, a hobby show giveaway, launch-night promotion, and preorder material. This page gathers the campaign as a historical record.

The campaign around the game

SEGA's release marketing repeatedly sold choice, identity, weapons, vehicles, and multiple endings. Regional promotion then pushed Shadow into very different spaces: print advertising in the US and UK, television and cinema, m-flo's music campaign in Japan, Pancrase wrestling, World Hobby Fair, and ARTIMAGE NIGHT.

The records below distinguish surviving first-party documentation from later community preservation copies. A surviving video or scan elsewhere is evidence for the artifact; it is not automatically a Shadorux-held preservation copy.

Print campaign

01

US magazine advertising

Sonic Stadium preserves three separately cataloged pages of US magazine advertising from 2005. Secrets of Sonic Team also indexed a print advertisement and credited Wario64.

The original magazines carrying the three-page set remain unidentified.

02

UK magazine advertisement

Sonic Stadium preserves a distinct UK magazine advert. It is cataloged separately because the available evidence does not establish that it is simply a regional copy of the US campaign.

On screens

Walk of Game announcement trailer

The game was unveiled around the March 8 Walk of Game event. Sonic Stadium's preservation record dates the announcement trailer itself to March 15, so the reveal date and trailer-release date remain separate.

UK 60-second commercial

Sonic Stadium identifies a 60-second UK advertisement distributed for cinema and television.

30-second spot

A separate 30-second commercial survives in Sonic Stadium's related video records.

Having a Blast

Another commercial survives under the title Having a Blast. Regional broadcaster and agency provenance remain research targets.

Japanese m-flo commercial

A dedicated Japanese commercial survives from the m-flo collaboration campaign.

TRIPOD BABY promotional video

The CG music video for TRIPOD BABY (SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG MIX) survives as a distinct artifact from the shorter television commercial.

m-flo LOVES SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG

SEGA documented filming on October 9, 2005 for a collaboration pairing Shadow with m-flo through CG. The project used a Shadow remix of m-flo loves LISA's TRIPOD BABY.

TRIPOD BABY (SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG MIX)

SEGA's November 2 record states that the remix went onto the iTunes Music Store and that the CG footage would be used in television advertising from late November and made viewable on the official Shadow website.

NOV 02Digital release

Pancrase and Minoru Suzuki

Shadow was promoted alongside Pancrase and wrestler Minoru Suzuki. SEGA documented Shadow imagery around the ring and, on November 4 at Korakuen Hall, Shadow appearing as a presenter.

Physical promotional material

Sonic / Shadow hand fan

Documented directly by SEGA as a giveaway to players at the June World Hobby Fair. Shadorux does not currently hold the physical item.

m-flo × Shadow shirt

Sonic Channel's update record documents a launch-period giveaway campaign, and later prize documentation identifies a yellow collaboration T-shirt.

SEGA Direct preorder bonus

The official Shadow site's October 21 update announced a SEGA Direct preorder with a bonus. The exact bonus is still unresolved and should not be guessed.

Hero or Villain?

By the North American shipment announcement on November 15, SEGA's campaign language centered on the player's ability to determine Shadow's future. Weapons, vehicles, branching decisions, multiple endings, and replay value were all part of the official sales pitch.
