SHADORUX

Development
Interviews

What the developers said while Shadow the Hedgehog was being announced, previewed, released, and promoted—kept attached to date, publication, and preservation status.

Contemporary statements first

This index favors statements made during the 2005 campaign over later retrospective summaries. It separates formal SEGA announcement quotations, magazine interviews, press interviews, and Sonic Channel material rather than flattening them into one account.

Shadorux does not currently hold every original interview artifact. Where an original page is missing, the page records the surviving preservation route and keeps recovery of the original as an explicit target.

SEGA ANNOUNCEMENT

Takashi Iizuka on giving Shadow his own game

SEGA's formal announcement identifies Iizuka as director and records his explanation that the team had wanted to feature Shadow in his own game since the character's introduction in Sonic Adventure 2. The announcement positions the title as a Shadow-led Sonic spin-off centered on his identity and destiny.

Contemporary press-release reproduction survives

GAMESMASTER #159

GamesMaster interview

The surviving scan indexes establish that issue 159 contained a Shadow preview and Takashi Iizuka interview. Secrets of Sonic Team also records retrospective Sonic material and a timeline around the feature.

Interview scans externally preserved; full text not transcribed here

NINTENDO OFFICIAL MAGAZINE UK

NOM interview

The May 2005 feature set included a dedicated Iizuka interview alongside the larger preview, poster, screenshots, weapons, vehicles, and destructible-environment coverage. Sonic Stadium preserves an individually cataloged interview scan.

Strong issue/page provenance; external preservation copy

JEUXACTU

Release-period interview

Iizuka discussed the game's fast-action design and the possibility of Shadow continuing as a series. He said the team was waiting to see public reaction before considering a sequel and that sales would matter. He also distinguished the intended evolution of Shadow's games from Sonic's despite their shared high-speed-action foundation.

SONIC CHANNEL

Two-part developer interview

Sonic Channel's first-party update log records developer-interview part one on December 12 and part two on December 13. A surviving English translation identifies the interview as a staff-column conversation with director Takashi Iizuka and discusses SEGA Studio USA and development.

First-party publication record survives; original pages remain recovery targets

WEEKLY SEGA VOICE

Another Iizuka interview

Sonic Channel's update log records a director Takashi Iizuka interview under Weekly Sega Voice together with soundtrack sales information.

What these sources support

Shadow as a deliberate lead

The March announcement directly supports that the team had wanted a Shadow-led game since Sonic Adventure 2.

A separate future from Sonic

The November JeuxActu interview supports Iizuka discussing Shadow's possible continuation and distinguishing how Shadow games could evolve from Sonic games.

SEGA Studio USA development

The formal announcement identifies SEGA Studio USA as developer; the surviving December interview translation provides additional discussion of the studio and production.

Preservation notes

Original Sonic Channel pages

Highest-priority interview recovery target. The update log proves the December 12–13 publications existed, but Shadorux should locate original captures rather than rely primarily on a later translation.

Weekly Sega Voice

The December 16 entry is a separate interview lead and should not be silently merged with the two-part Sonic Channel staff column.

Magazine interviews

GamesMaster and NOM interviews should retain issue, page, scanner/contributor, and holder provenance. External scans remain external unless Shadorux acquires an appropriate preservation copy.
