Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) Paths, Endings & 326 Routes

Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) uses a branching mission system. The objective you finish in a stage determines the next stage, moving Shadow toward Hero, Dark, or Neutral routes and eventually one of ten initial endings.

How the route system works

Every story run begins in Westopolis. Stages can offer different objectives tied to the characters or factions Shadow encounters. Completing one objective sends the story along a particular branch, so two playthroughs can move through different stage sequences before reaching an ending.

Hero missions

Hero objectives generally have Shadow help Sonic, G.U.N., or their allies and move the route toward the Hero side of the story map.

Dark missions

Dark objectives generally align Shadow with Black Doom or destructive goals and move the route toward the Dark side of the story map.

Neutral routes

Some stages allow Shadow to ignore either side's main objective and reach the goal directly, producing Neutral branches through the map.

Why are there 326 paths?

The game records 326 distinct possible story sequences in its Library. Those paths come from the different mission choices and stage transitions available across repeated playthroughs. The number refers to route combinations through the story map, not 326 unique levels.

Shadorux's 326 Path Explorer turns that idea into a small browser toy: choose Hero, Neutral, or Dark outcomes and watch a route signature form as you move away from Westopolis.

The 10 endings and Last Story

A normal run reaches one of ten initial endings. Reaching all ten unlocks the Last Story, which provides the game's final confrontation and conclusion. Because the route map can reach the same ending through different sequences, collecting the ten endings and filling all 326 Library paths are separate completion goals.
